Abbey United Reformed Church, Romsey

Mum was 93 on her birthday last week, she had family visits for cake and chat at a distance and she requested charity donations instead of gifts for herself. This photo was taken after her first haircut post lockdown, a few months ago. The Plaza Theatre in Romsey has been doing twice monthly Saturday film matinees, usually U rated, so we went yesterday as a treat and we sometimes go to church but usually watch on the computer via Zoom or live streaming. What with the local radio church service in the morning and Songs of Praise on TV we feel very saintly!  Chris L

We are privileged to have Kirsty and Rod Blencowe bringing music into our Zoom services.   I asked Rod the Sunday before last about the similarity of two gentle piano interludes in the worship.  “Well, one was Chopin” he said.  The other he had composed himself, thinking of those who had lost family members in the Covid-19 epidemic.  Geoff P

With the threat of Covid-19 numbers increasing across the country we should not become complacent.  To keep this in perspective for our area, there were 4 Covid-positive patients in Southampton General Hospital on 7 October 2020.  Take care, follow the rules of hands, face, space.  Keep well.

All Souls Service, 1 November - we will be holding our annual All Souls service at Abbey URC on 1 November at 10.45am.  I will be sending a letter to those within our church communities who have experienced bereavement since the All Souls service last year, inviting them to share in this service, in person at church (booking your space via phone or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or on Zoom, details to follow.  If you have lost a loved-one and are reading this as a non-member of our church communities and would like your loved one or friend to be remembered by having their name read out, you are welcome to phone or email me, by 12 noon on Saturday, 31 October.  Revd Mike
