Romsey Foodbank update
Plans are now well advanced for the launch of the Romsey Food Bank. Funding has been sourced, local organisations who will be referral agencies are waiting to be advised of the change and over 40 volunteers have been found to help in many ways, including a Co-ordinator willing to give her time free of charge to oversee the project. The only missing factor is a suitable venue where donated foods can be sorted and stored. Once this has been found, Trussell Trust and the Andover Food Bank will help us to set up our new Romsey Food Bank to serve our town and the surrounding area.
Not only does this have the environmental advantage of removing the need to transport donated foods from Romsey to Andover for sorting, only to bring them back to Romsey for distribution, it also means that the local knowledge of its volunteers will ensure the giving of food parcels to local people can be more focused, with additional help being made available where this is needed. In the long term it is hoped that debt counselling, financial planning assistance and numerous other services can spring from establishing the Romsey Food Bank. This is an exciting opportunity for the churches to demonstrate the love of God to those in need. Please do pray for this initiative, and remember to support the Food Bank by bringing your monthly contributions for food parcels to the church on the first Sunday of each month.
