As we travel through the weeks of Lent to Easter there are some special services to help us reflect on the reality of the journey of Jesus towards Jerusalem to the cross, his death, and his wonderful resurrection.
The 10.30am morning service of 19 March at Abbey URC brings a sense of light and joy in the midst of the solemnity of Lent with our Mothering Sunday service.
Holy Week begins on 2 April with our Palm Sunday service marking the entry of Jesus to Jerusalem to the great welcome of the people. We remember that this joy and welcome soon turns into shouts for Jesus’ death. We receive palm crosses today; the Easter cross will be situated outside the church; palm crosses can be placed on this cross as a public testimony to the darkness of betrayal and crucifixion to which Jesus was heading.
At 6.30pm on 6 April, Maundy Thursday, we share in Holy Communion in the church, as we remember Jesus’ act of humble service to his disciples when he washed their feet, and the last meal they shared. Friends from Romsey churches, and elsewhere, are very welcome.
At 10.30am on 7 April, we hold our annual Good Friday service, prior to our united Churches Together act of witness in the town centre.
Our Easter celebration begins on Easter Sunday morning with our 8.30am Easter Communion, followed by Easter breakfast in the Abbey Hall at 9am when we gather together to celebrate Easter day together. At 10.30am we gather in church for Family Communion. Before and after both services you are invited to place flowers in the cross outside the church as signs of the wonder of Jesus’ resurrection!
Everyone will be very welcome to come and share in all the services over this most important time of the Christian year.
